Our Library
Ross County Genealogical Society (RCGS) is a non-profit organization made possible through membership dues, sales of publications and donations. The library is staffed solely by dedicated, hardworking volunteers. Our library collection includes books and information on 80 of the 88 counties in Ohio and most of the states.
We are proud of our library and encourage you to visit us at 303 S. Paint Street, Chillicothe when you are in the area. Non-members are asked for a $5.00 donation each time they come to research.
If you cannot visit, we do offer look-ups from the holdings in our collection. If you would like this done, we require an advance donation of $20.00 per family, limited to 2 hours. If a third hour or more is required to complete the search, an additional $10.00 per hour will be requested for the search plus cost of copies. If many entries are found, we will advise you of the additional amount necessary to cover excessive copies. We require a "family group sheet" listing the parents and children with the dates and locations which you have on each, so we can identify your family in references. Purpose
To preserve and collect genealogical and historical records of this area.
To promote research through making available literature regarding the purposes, records acquisitions, and discoveries of the society.
To aid others in the publication and dissemination of materials regarding Ross County.
To receive and hold gifts and bequests from any source for the benefit of the society.
To encourage active membership in this Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society.
Programs/Meetings
General meetings/programs are held on the second Tuesday of March, April, May, September, October & November at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted, at the RCGS Library, 303 S. Paint Street, Chillicothe, Ohio. See the Events page for program topics.
The annual Banquet is held the third Tuesday in June at 6:30 p.m. The annual Picnic is held the second Tuesday of August at 6:00 p.m. at the RCGS Library. If the county fair falls on the second Tuesday the picnic will be held on the third Tuesday. A Christmas Luncheon for Volunteers is held in December at the RCGS Library.
