Welcome to our newly formatted RCGS website. You will find that the new format will be more compatible when switching between different devices, such as desktop, laptop, ipad/tablet and android/iphone. The look may be different, but the content is the same with some added bonuses.

Most members will use their same user id but passwords will need to be changed. To change your password, enter your user name then click on "I forgot my password." Enter your email and follow the instructions on the email you receive. If your user id is not excepted, email us at info@rcgsohio.org and we will give you the temporary id assigned to you.

What's New at the Library

Evening Hours Added

Beginning June 18, we will be open the 3rd Thursday of each month, June through October, from 5 pm - 8 pm for research. We know it is difficult for some of you to come to the library during our present open hours. This will be an option for those of you who work during the day. We will still be open from 1 pm - 4 pm on those third Thursdays. (Note: October 15 will be the last evening hours for this year.)

RCGS is An Affiliate Library of FamilySearch!!

The RCGS Library is now an affiliate of FamilySearch's research and library system. When you are researching in FamilySearch at our Library you now have access to FamilySearch's digital genealogical collections that are otherwise accessible only through a FamilySearch center. To view limited access historical records on FamilySearch all you need is a free FamilySearch account.

RCGS Library

The Ross County Genealogical Society was organized in January 1973 by Marie Clark. She became the first president of the society. In 1983 the society became a chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society at their annual conference. In 2018, the society sold their building in the east end of town and purchased a building at 303 S. Paint Street in downtown Chillicothe in close vicinity to the public library and the county courthouse.
